How Our PDF Tools Work

A radical departure from traditional cloud-based tools. We process everything right in your browser.

The Problem with Traditional Online PDF Tools

For the past decade, if you wanted to merge or convert a PDF online, the process looked like this:

  1. You select a file on your computer.
  2. You wait for the file to upload over the internet to a company's server.
  3. The server processes your file (putting it in a queue with thousands of other users).
  4. The server creates a new file and stores it on their hard drives.
  5. You download the finished file back to your computer.

This approach is fundamentally flawed. It is slow, it relies entirely on your internet upload speed, and most importantly, it is a massive privacy risk. When you upload your tax returns, legal contracts, or confidential business reports to a third-party server, you are trusting that company with your sensitive data. You have no guarantee that the file is actually deleted, or that their servers won't be breached.

Our Solution: 100% Local Browser Processing

We built our PDF Toolkit to solve these exact problems. Instead of sending your file to our servers, we send our processing engine to your computer.

When you load one of our tools, we use modern web technologies—specifically WebAssembly and advanced JavaScript APIs—to run complex PDF manipulation algorithms directly within your web browser.

How the Local Workflow Operates:

  1. You select a file: The file is read by your web browser into its local memory (RAM). It never touches your network connection.
  2. Instant Processing: Because the processing engine is running locally on your device's CPU, the operation (merging, splitting, compressing) begins immediately. There is no waiting in server queues.
  3. Immediate Download: Once processing is complete, the browser simply generates a save prompt for the new file it created in its memory. There is no download time because the file is already on your device.

The Three Pillars of Our Technology

1. Absolute Privacy & Security

Because your files never leave your device, there is zero risk of data interception, unauthorized storage, or server breaches. You don't have to trust us with your data, because we never see it. This makes our toolkit safe for use with HIPAA-regulated medical records, GDPR-sensitive personal data, and strictly confidential corporate assets. Once you close the browser tab, the data ceases to exist in the browser's memory.

2. Unmatched Speed

Upload and download speeds are the biggest bottlenecks in document processing. By eliminating network transfers, our tools operate at the speed of your local hardware. A 100MB PDF that might take 5 minutes to upload to a cloud service can be merged or split locally in just a few seconds.

3. Zero Artificial Limits

Cloud-based PDF services cost money to run. Server compute time and bandwidth are expensive, which is why traditional services impose strict limits—"Only 2 files per hour" or "Max 15MB file size" unless you pay a monthly subscription.

Because our tools utilize your device's processing power, our server costs are virtually zero. This allows us to offer our entire suite of 50+ tools completely free, with no file size limits, no usage quotas, and no premium paywalls. Your only limit is the memory capacity of your own device.

A Note on AI Tools

While 95% of our tools run entirely offline, our advanced AI tools (like Summarize PDF or Chat with PDF) require the use of massive language models that cannot fit inside a web browser. For these specific tools, the text extracted from your PDF is sent securely to our API providers (like Groq or OpenAI) for processing.

However, we maintain strict privacy protocols even here: no files are stored, data is not used for model training, and the connection is heavily encrypted. We clearly label these tools so you always know when data is being transmitted.

Try it yourself. Disconnect your computer from the internet after loading the page, and watch as our core tools (like Merge or Split) continue to work flawlessly offline.
